New Hope Counseling Services provides quality mental health care utilizing Evidence Based Practice:

EMDR
(Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)

EMDR is an Adaptive Information Processing Model that was developed by Dr. Francine Shapiro to resolve symptoms resulting from exposure to traumatic or distressing events such as domestic violence, rape, or military combat and has been nationally and internationally recognized as an exemplary evidence based practice.
EMDR is a structured approach to address past, present, and future components of the disturbing memories.  The negative, painful emotions associated with the trauma give way to  empowered feelings and the symptoms resolve or become much more manageable.
EMDR is typically delivered in 60-90 minute sessions.  The number of sessions varies with the complexity of the trauma being treated.

Trauma

Some children, adolescents, or adults who experience traumatic events are resilient but  others may develop symptoms that can be profound and have negative long-lasting effects on their daily functioning, health and safety.
Overwhelming emotions that result from traumatic loss, abuse and/or neglect can create  violations of safety, betrayal of trust and immeasurable loss.
Treatment and treatment with parenting interventions (for children and adolscents) are utilized to facilitate security, healthy attachments, and resolution of symptoms associated with the trauma.
The interventions must engage and enhance the child, adolescent, or adult physically, emotionally, behaviorally, and cognitively in order to promote safety and appropriate management of behaviors.
The trauma must be addressed in a safe and secure environment to resolve the child's, adolescent's, or adult's painful and shameful emotions.

TF-CBT
(Trauma Focused Cognitive Beharioral Therapy)

TF-CBT was developed by Dr.'s Cohen, Mannarino, and Deblinger and has been nationally recognized as an exemplary evidence based program.  It is designed to reduce negative emotional and behavioral responses following child sexual abuse and other traumatic events.  This model is also utilized with children who are experiencing traumatic grief.
TF-CBT is a structured approach and is best accomplished with parental or caregiver participation.
TF-CBT is appropriate for ages 3-18 and is often done over a period of 12-18 sessions.  Attendence is once per week and the sessions are typically 60-90 minutes long.
